Event & Code of Conduct Policy

Our Commitment

Public Assembly is dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants, regardless of age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, ethnicity, religion, or gaming experience level. This Code of Conduct applies to all Public Assembly events, both in-person and online.

Expected Behavior

All participants are expected to:

  • Be respectful and courteous to other players, staff, and spectators
  • Follow all game rules and tournament regulations
  • Compete with integrity and good sportsmanship
  • Maintain appropriate hygiene and cleanliness
  • Respect venue property and equipment
  • Follow instructions from tournament organizers and judges
  • Report violations of this code of conduct to staff immediately

Prohibited Behavior

The following behaviors are strictly prohibited and will result in penalties:

  • Harassment: Including but not limited to verbal comments, physical contact, sexual images, deliberate intimidation, stalking, or unwelcome sexual attention
  • Discrimination: Based on any protected characteristic
  • Cheating: Any form of cheating, including marked cards, collusion, or bribery
  • Violence: Physical assault, threats of violence, or aggressive physical contact
  • Theft: Taking another person's property without permission
  • Substance abuse: Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs during events
  • Disruptive behavior: Excessive noise, profanity, or behavior that interferes with others' enjoyment

Gaming-Specific Conduct

During Matches

  • Maintain a clear game state at all times
  • Communicate clearly with your opponent
  • Call a judge for any disputes or rules questions
  • No coaching or outside assistance during matches
  • Complete matches in a timely manner

Trading Card Games

  • Use only tournament-legal cards and sleeves
  • Present deck for shuffling/cutting when requested
  • Keep cards above the table at all times
  • No excessive shuffling or slow play

Video Game Tournaments

  • Use only approved controllers and settings
  • No pausing without valid reason
  • No exploiting known bugs or glitches
  • Respect equipment and return it in good condition

Consequences for Violations

Depending on severity, consequences may include:

  1. Warning: Verbal or written warning for minor infractions
  2. Game/Match Loss: Automatic loss of current game or match
  3. Disqualification: Removal from current tournament without refund
  4. Suspension: Temporary ban from future events (30-365 days)
  5. Permanent Ban: Lifetime ban from all Public Assembly events
  6. Legal Action: Police involvement for criminal behavior

Reporting Violations

If you experience or witness a violation:

  • Immediately notify a staff member or judge
  • Provide details including time, location, and individuals involved
  • Staff will investigate promptly and discreetly
  • Retaliation against reporters is strictly prohibited

You may also report incidents via email to hello@publicassemb.ly within 48 hours of the event.

Photography and Recording

  • Photography for personal use is generally permitted
  • Always ask permission before photographing individuals
  • Professional photography/filming requires prior approval
  • Respect "no photography" zones and featured match areas
  • Live streaming of matches requires permission from both players

Spectator Guidelines

Spectators must:

  • Maintain appropriate distance from active matches
  • Remain silent during gameplay
  • Not provide advice or information to players
  • Not touch players' cards or game pieces
  • Follow all venue rules and staff instructions

Health and Safety

  • Stay home if you are feeling ill
  • Maintain personal hygiene
  • Report any safety hazards to staff
  • Know emergency exit locations
  • Keep personal belongings secure

Appeals Process

To appeal a penalty or ban:

  1. Submit written appeal to hello@publicassemb.ly within 7 days
  2. Include your side of events and any supporting evidence
  3. Appeals reviewed within 14 business days
  4. Decision will be communicated via email
  5. Appeal decisions are final
